25 years after the tragedy of 9/11, we remember two of the truck drivers who did their part to help those affected and get their ‘hands dirty.’

Back on September 11th, 2001, Consolidated Freightwaves loaded up double trailers with donations and set off from Memphis, Tennessee to do what they could to help those affected by the terrorist attack. Now, 25 years later, we remember the importance of drivers in the every day, and in emergency situations.

Truck drivers Bill Pope and David Olivi headed out of Memphis escorted by local sheriff’s deputies before driving up Interstate 81 and toward the East Coast for a total of over 1,100 miles and 22 hours 40 minutes straight.

“As a lot of people say, get your hands dirty,” Pope said at the time of the long haul. “I’m getting my hands dirty.”

The team drivers were tailed by reporters from…. And communicated with them via CB radio.

“A little anxious, and wide awake, the closer I get to New York City” Pope said of the journey.

“Probably chaos when I get there. When I get there, I’m pretty sure I’m going to break down.”

The news report clip can be seen here. And a special thank you to the drivers who helped back then, and still help today.
