An inquiry into a recent drowsy driving accident in Texas has uncovered questionable information about the trucking firm implicated in the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board, along with the Texas Department of Public Safety, has initiated an investigation into the multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Terrell, Texas, which resulted in the deaths of five individuals. The 27-year-old truck driver involved in the incident, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, is now in custody with a bond set at $1.5 million due to the accident, which reportedly occurred after he fell asleep while driving. As stated by CBS, Gonzalez-Companioni was operating for Hope Trans LLC when the crash happened. As reported by the FMCSA, the company has been active since 2021, has a workforce of 80 drivers, and manages a fleet of 65 trucks. Over the past year, 5% of the drivers of the company who were inspected were put out of service, while almost 34% of their trucks were also taken out of service during that period. The national percentages of drivers and trucks taken out of service were 6.67% and 22.26%, respectively. Over the last two years, Hope Trans LLC has been associated with three accidents that caused injuries, none of which were deadly until the incident on I-20. Although the inspection rates appeared acceptable, the inquiry has uncovered questionable aspects related to ownership and the company’s registered address. According to WFAA, the Orlando address that is now provided was previously updated from a Tacoma, Washington address, which was associated with a co-working space. It is uncertain if Hope Trans had an office at that location. Apart from possible FMCSA violations concerning the company’s address, the registered owner of Hope Trans did not reply to media inquiries and also removed her LinkedIn profile.
