An empty box truck was lifted out of the Merrimack River after a crash involving seven vehicles on Wednesday.
The crash happened on Wednesday, September 23rd on the Interstate 293 bridge in Manchester, New Hampshire.
According to 9ABC, seven vehicles were involved in a crash near the bridge, which sent the empty box truck off of the bridge and into the river below.
The truck driver was able to exit his submerged cab and climb on top of the trailer until he could be rescued. Seven people were injured and taken to a hospital. Four other people were involved in the crash but were not hurt. The severity of the seven injuries has not been released. The cause of the crash is not clear.
“(The truck) was actually empty, which is a great sign,” said Bedford Deputy Fire Chief Eric Dubowik prior to the box truck’s removal by crane. “So, we’re going to lift that out of the water and try to get it back on the bridge, probably the easiest way to get it out.”
