Legislation to codify the Freedom Haulers initiative was introduced by US Representative Brian Mast on Thursday.
The legislation was introduced on Thursday, August 13th, just one day after US Rep Mast announced his plans to make the fast-track for veterans looking to get into trucking permanent.
“Veterans have already proven they have the discipline, the training, and the grit to handle the world’s most demanding jobs in the world’s most dangerous places. Hauling America’s freight should be next,” said Congressman Brian Mast. “President Trump opened the fast lane for veterans to get behind the wheel and my bill make sure it stays that way.”
The policy opens the door even wider for veterans looking to get into trucking by “letting veterans with heavy vehicle military experience transfer their skills without taking redundant road tests,” doubling the Military Skills Test Waiver window from 12 months to 24 months after service,” and “allowing qualified veterans to bypass CDL knowledge exams and receive licenses faster.”
Currently, the Freedom Haulers initiative is just a directive from the administration, but the legislation introduced by Mast would write the policy into federal law.
