Missouri transportation officials are moving ahead with a project to increase truck parking availability along the I-70 corridor.
On May 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced that the KCI Construction Team was selected as a contractor for the Improve I-70: Truck Parking project, to be funded by a $30 million INFRA Grant.
As part of the project, MoDOT will build 255 new truck parking spaces, bringing the total number of public truck parking spaces along I-70 to 506.
“Over 10,000 trucks utilize I-70 daily and during peak hours, all of I-70’s public truck parking areas are over capacity and 75% of private truck stops are over capacity. Providing safe off-highway parking reduces the cost of shoulder and guardrail repairs on interstate ramps caused by trucks parking on ramp shoulders and removes trucks from the roadside of active traffic,” MoDOT said.
MoDOT said that there are also nearly 2,000 privately-owned truck parking spaces along the I-70 corridor.
The project also includes pavement improvements, lighting upgrades, and parking expansion at existing Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City rest areas along I-70. The restroom facilities will be remodeled at the Wright City and Concordia locations.
“The KCI Team is thrilled to be selected as the Design-Build Contractor for the I-70 Truck Parking Project,” explained KCI Vice President of Transportation, Brian Mulhall. “We are proud to continue our partnership with MoDOT and look forward to delivering another impactful improvement to Missouri’s I-70 corridor.”
Construction is tentatively scheduled for completion by December 1, 2028.
