Troopers with the Arizona Department of Public (AZDPS) Safety Highway Patrol say that they arrested a truck driver who was found to be several times over the legal limit after crashing in the Bellemont area.
On May 1, AZDPS said that troopers responded to a reported collision on I-40 near Hughes Avenue.
Troopers said that when they arrived on the scene, they found a semi truck that had struck a guardrail but “they didn’t see any skid marks or signs of evasive action taken to avoid a collision.”
After observing signs of impairment, troopers performed a field sobriety test.
A subsequent breath test reportedly “confirmed he was drunk with a .174 BAC – more than four times the legal amount when operating a commercial vehicle.”
AZDPS said that the driver was arrested for “extreme DUI.”
“Big rig and a bigger mistake,” officials quipped.
“DUIs are a risk, and driving a large commercial vehicle is a risk. A DUI in a commercial vehicle is a recipe for potential disaster. CDL drivers who get a DUI jeopardize their commercial license, putting lives and their livelihood at risk in one fell swoop. Be smart and save the drinking for when you’re not on the road and totally off the clock,” Arizona troopers advised.
