Three people are facing charges for a multi-year, multi-million dollar theft and money laundering scheme targeting a New Jersey trucking company.
On April 24, 2026, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office (UCPO) announced the following charges:
- Alejandro Garcia, 49 — first-degree money laundering, multiple counts of second-degree theft, credit card fraud, and conspiracy to commit theft
- Sandra Garcia, 51 — second-degree theft and second-degree conspiracy to commit theft
- Rosemarie Ritacco, 46 — second-degree theft, third-degree theft, and second-degree conspiracy to commit theft
Officials launched an investigation in September 2025 after Elizabeth, New Jersey trucking company R. Roman Truck Leasing alleged that Alejandro Garcia had stolen $2.5 million over a five-year period.
Alejandro Garcia was a 27-year employee of R. Roman Truck Leasing. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Safer website, R. Roman Truck Leasing is a small carrier that employs 14 drivers.
According to UCPO, the “massive, multi-agency investigation” that followed revealed that Alejandro Garcia stole approximately $8 million from his employer.
“The investigation uncovered that Mr. Garcia used unauthorized checks, cash withdrawals, and payments to other employees to finance a lavish lifestyle for himself and his family. To facilitate the theft, Mr. Garcia allegedly established a shadow company titled Roman Truck Leasing Co. of NJ Corporation,” officials said.
On April 21, 2026, UCPO Detectives executed a search warrant at Alejandro Garcia’s place of business in New Brunswick. Alejandro Garcia turned himself in to the Union County Prosecutors Office that same day, and he was held at the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
A search warrant was also executed at a residence in Wall Township that resulted in a Complaint-Summons being served to Sandra Garcia.
Ritacco was also served with a Complaint-Summons on April 22, 2026.
“This investigation highlights the relentless work of our detectives in uncovering complex financial crimes that devastate local businesses,” said the Union County Prosecutor William Daniel. “We would like to thank the Wall Township Police, New Brunswick Police, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Sheriff’s Office, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Search Warrant Entry Team, and the Department of Labor Office of the Inspector General for their vital assistance in this operation.”
