FMCSA alerts carriers to an ‘aggressive’ phishing scam.

Trucking news and briefs for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026:

FMCSA warns of ‘aggressive’ phishing scam targeting carriers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Jan. 30 issued an alert to the trucking industry about “a new, aggressive phishing campaign” targeting motor carriers.

In the scheme, carriers receive emails falsely claiming to be from the U.S. Department of Transportation or FMCSA officials and often contain professional-looking documents and legitimate-looking links, the agency said. Yet, the emails “are fake and designed to steal sensitive information or demand illegal payments,” FMCSA added.

Official correspondence from FMCSA almost always uses an email address ending in “.gov,” except in special circumstances, such as customer satisfaction surveys after contacting the FMCSA Contact Center, when emails may come from a non-.gov address. Those surveys ask for feedback only and do not ask for personal, payment or account information.

As detailed in prior reporting, there is plenty fleets can do to mitigate their risk of becoming a victim of cybercrime. Always check links in emails to ensure they are legitimate. FMCSA said fake emails often contain links that lead to suspicious, non-.gov domains (for example, fmcsa.web.saferwebdattaconnect.pro).

FMCSA added that it will never request payment or sensitive info, such as UCR, PIN, SSN, EIN or bank details, through unsolicited messages.

If you receive an unexpected email purportedly from DOT or FMCSA, avoid clicking links and verify all communications through official channels, including the FCMSA Call Center or call 1-800-832-5660.

FMCSA offers the following recommendations if you do receive a suspicious email:

  • Do not click on links or open attachments
  • Do not reply to the sender
  • File a complaint with the FBI through their Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) site
  • Report suspicious emails to the FMCSA Contact Center or call 1-800-832-5660
  • Visit the Federal Trade Commission site for more on phishing and email verification

Hyundai selects New York, New Jersey dealer for hydrogen-powered Xcient truck

With three full-service locations, Hendrickson Fleet Solutions brings comprehensive sales, service, parts, warranty, and infrastructure support to fleets across the region, the companies noted.

“We are excited to partner with Hendrickson Fleet Solutions and welcome them to our new commercial vehicle dealer network,” said Sean Kenney, CEO of Hyundai Translead. “Hendrickson’s exceptional expertise, customer support, and leadership make them an ideal partner as we expand the Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell across North America. The partnership marks a major milestone in the shared mission of Hyundai Translead and Hendrickson to deliver innovative solutions for fleet decarbonization and further advance the adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial transportation.

“This is a significant breakthrough for both Hendrickson Fleet Solutions and the future of commercial transportation in the region,” said Chance Parker, Vice President of EV Strategy at Hendrickson Fleet Solutions. “It’s much more than a new product offering; it’s a game-changing commitment to decarbonize more trucks and more fleet operations in the NYC metro area and beyond. Combining the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell truck with Hendrickson’s customer-centric EV integration and infrastructure support, we are delivering complete fleet solutions for zero-emission success.”

Highway Angels of the Year announced

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has named three truck drivers — Terry Walde of Searcy Trucking Ltd., Deshown Moye of Melton Truck Lines, and Heather Barkey of Nussbaum Transportation — as the 2025 TCA Highway Angels of the Year.

The announcement follows a public vote that recognized their acts of courage, compassion and professionalism while on the road.

The three drivers will be formally recognized during the Awards Luncheon on Monday, March 2, held in conjunction with TCA’s Annual Convention in Orlando.

Here are the remarkable stories of the 2025 TCA Highway Angels of the Year:

Terry Walde was traveling eastbound on Highway 1 in Saskatchewan on May 27, 2025, when he came upon debris scattered across the roadway. Moments later, he discovered a severely injured cyclist who had been struck by a semi-truck in a hit-and-run accident. Without hesitation, Walde stopped to render aid, ensured the cyclist was alive and breathing, and communicated critical injury details to emergency responders. Recognizing the ongoing danger posed by passing traffic, Walde directed vehicles around the scene for several hours until authorities arrived. Dashcam footage provided by Searcy Trucking later helped law enforcement apprehend and charge the responsible driver.

Deshown Moye was driving through Alabama on April 28, 2025, when he encountered the aftermath of a devastating multi-vehicle crash on I-65. A small sedan had been violently pushed beneath a tractor-trailer, leaving its driver critically injured and trapped inside. Moye immediately stopped, assessed the scene for hazards, and called 911 before rushing to assist the injured woman. With the vehicle smoking and the driver in extreme distress, Moye stabilized her injuries, carefully relieved pressure from her seatbelt with her consent, and remained by her side for nearly 45 minutes, providing comfort and reassurance until emergency responders arrived. His steady presence and quick thinking played a vital role in keeping the victim alive during a life-threatening emergency.

Heather Barkey was nearing her terminal in Mount Vernon, Illinois, late in the evening on June 18, 2025, when she noticed a truck that had rolled over along the roadway. Seeing that no one else had stopped, she pulled over, activated her hazard lights, and called 911. The overturned truck was smoking and leaking fuel, and the driver was trapped inside. Using a flashlight she had on hand, Barkey broke the window, enabling the driver to escape before conditions worsened. She remained on the scene until law enforcement arrived and confirmed the driver was safe.

Each of the 2025 Highway Angels of the Year will receive a complimentary EpicVue satellite TV package, including a 24-inch television, DVR, and a one-year subscription to DirecTV programming.
