The friends and family of a truck driver who died in a fiery crash last week held a semi truck parade in honor of “one of the best truck drivers on the road.”

64-year-old Ronnie Ownley was killed in a crash in Virginia on westbound Interstate 64 near Indian River at around 6:50 a.m. on November 10th when a sedan lost control and skidded in front of Ownley’s tractor trailer. The semi truck the crashed into a barrier wall and caught fire, killing Ownley.

“It did look like [the truck driver] appeared to miss the car, or attempted to miss the car, I should say, and the truck just veered to the left and slow, almost like it was in slow motion,” one witness said to WAVY 10. “The trailer went over and, in a sense, pulling the cab over as well,” said witness Steve Kirby. “As soon as it started to go on its side, the sparks started coming up from the metal scraping across the across the pavement, and I guess … one of the fuel tanks went up right away.”

Ownley’s friends and family in his hometown of Elizabeth City, North Carolina honored his legacy with a semi truck parade on Monday, November 17th at the Fountain of Life church.

“He was one of the best truck drivers on the road. He was very hyper aware and did his best to do what was right in the moment. He was one of the best men out there,” his daughter, Amanda White, said in a statement.

A video of the parade can be seen below.
