A truck driver traveling the wrong way on the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge was forced to the ground in handcuffs by the officers who stopped him.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning, August 27th on the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge along Interstate 55 in Memphis, Tennessee.

According to WREG, the truck driver drove west in the eastbound lanes of the bridge, forcing other semi trucks and vehicles to move out of the way.

“My immediate thought was that another truck is pulling this truck. You know, you see that all the time on the interstate. Then I noticed a man was in the front seat driving,” said Raleigh Cupples, who was on her way to work when she encountered the wrong-way semi truck and started filming

The semi truck eventually came to a stop near the center barrier wall, and an Arkansas State Trooper hopped the barrier to confront the truck driver. The trooper can be seen attempting to enter the truck cab from the passenger side before running to the driver’s side. The driver seems to refuse to exit the truck cab, and was eventually pulled from the rig and forced to the ground in handcuffs by multiple armed police officers. The truck driver was then taken into custody.

“I’m assuming he asked him to exit the vehicle, and it seemed like the man didn’t want to get out for whatever reason,” Cupples said. “I don’t know if he was confused, had something medical going on, I don’t know.”

Information on what led up to the incident and any potential charges has not been released by the Arkansas State Police.
