The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking the trucking community to hit the CAT Scale to ensure weight compliance.
In a July 1 social media post, troopers with CHP’s Grapevine Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, located off I-5 in Lebec, called on truckers to watch their weight on grouped axles.
“Wanted to send a friendly reminder to our carriers & drivers that 34,000 lbs. is the maximum allowance on grouped axles. Recently, we’ve seen an increase of over weight violations on grouped axles. Please verify your weight at your nearest CAT scale to ensure compliance. If you discover the weight is too much, return it to the loader to have it rectified. Also, please make sure the load is secured to prevent it from sliding or shifting while in transport,” CHP said.
Troopers shared a photo of a scale reading of 39,600 pounds.
