The city of Baltimore held a remembrance to mark the second anniversary of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse this week.
The bridge collapsed two years ago on Thursday, March 26th after it was struck by a ship experiencing an electrical issue. The collapse killed six road workers.
The bridge rebuild was initially estimated to cost just under $2 billion with a completion date in 2028, but the cost to rebuild has since more than doubled to between $4.3 and $5.2 billion, with an expected completion date of 2030, reported Maryland Matters.
“We remain committed to rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge with intentionality, speed and safety,”Gov. Wes Moore said at the second anniversary remembrance according to WYPR. “I’ll work with anybody to make sure we see that happen.”
Baltimore officials are currently working with the families of those killed in the bridge collapse to install a permanent memorial overlooking the new bridge.
