A motorist was killed over the weekend when they crashed into a parked semi truck at a Virginia rest area off I-66.
The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on February 28, 2026, at a rest area off I-66 at mile marker 48 near Manassas, Virginia.
Virginia State Police (VSP) say that Jose Daniel Rivera Quintana, 19, was driving a Toyota Corolla at a high rate of speed when he struck a parked Kenworth truck at the rest area, sparking a vehicle fire.
Quintana died at the scene.
The truck driver, who was resting inside the cab of the Kenworth when the crash occurred, was not injured.
Police said that the semi truck was legally parked.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Toyota failed to maintain control of the vehicle,” VSP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
