Two truck drivers are dead after one driver crossed the center median and drove into oncoming traffic in Arkansas on Tuesday.
The accident happened on November 11th on Interstate 30 in Clark County, Arkansas at around 12:30 p.m.
According to the Arkadelphian, a semi truck heading east suddenly left the roadway, crossed the center median, near the 69 mile marker, and drove into oncoming traffic, where it collided head on with a westbound semi truck. The crash caused multiple explosions, which were heard by nearby residents. Both truck drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision sparked a fire and forced the closure of westbound I-30 at the Gum Springs exit for about 30 minutes. Both tractor trailers were burned in the incident. Investigators say the explosions were likely caused by tires as they burned in the fire.
The westbound lanes of I-30 were fully reopened by 4:30 p.m. The reason for the crash has not been released.
