COLUMBUS, Ohio — Multiple lanes of Interstate 270 at state Route 161 in northeast Columbus were reopened a few hours after a fuel tanker truck allegedly veered off the road and overturned, resulting in a significant fire. WBNS-TV was among the first to report on the incident. A dispatcher from Columbus public safety stated that officers were notified about the crash around 1:40 p.m. On Sunday, dispatchers indicated that 911 callers witnessed the tanker truck being abruptly cut off, leading it to veer off the road and roll over, as per the WBNS report. Columbus police later provided an update, stating that detectives confirmed the tanker truck was heading south on I-270 and was navigating the ramp to merge onto state Route 161. A black pickup truck, which was alongside another truck, lost control and collided with the tanker truck, according to the police. The tanker truck subsequently crashed into a guardrail and overturned, leading to a fire from the fuel it was transporting. Authorities reported that the pickup driver failed to stop and assist the wounded truck driver. The pickup truck drove away from the location, going east on Route 161.
